UHCL places learner-centered teaching at the heart of all that we do. The foundation of learner-centered teaching is equity and excellence for all learners. At UHCL, students can earn a bachelor’s degree with one of nine teacher certification options.

University of Houston-Clear Lake, Master of Arts in Teaching
The Master of Arts in Teaching allows students to earn both a teaching certificate and a master’s degree with just 36 semester credit hours. With evening courses available, students have flexibility to earning the degree while working full-time.

INSPIRE TEXAS Post-Graduate Certification Program
INSPIRE TEXAS is one of the largest public alternative certification programs in the state of Texas. Based out of the Region 4 Education Service Center in Houston, INSPIRE TEXAS provides online and face-to-face certification.

Rice University, Teacher Certification for Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students enter teacher certification program with well developed content skills, ready to add culturally relevant and critical pedagogy to academic rigor in ten, three-hour courses that fulfill all requirements for a Texas Standard Teaching Certificate. Students thrive as they move from course work to field-based work and apply what they are learning from courses to classrooms.

Rice University, Master of Arts in Teaching
The MAT for New Teachers, is a 36 hour, non-thesis graduate degree program. Coursework includes professional education courses and extensive field experiences. The program is designed for students holding bachelor’s degrees who are interested in pursuing graduate study in education while preparing for teacher certification at the secondary level.

KIPP Graduate Teaching Fellowship, Masters of Arts in Teaching and Texas Teaching Certification
The KIPP Graduate Teaching Fellowship is offered in Houston and is a part of KIPP Texas Public Schools. The Fellowship is a demanding two-year commitment. Fellows take graduate coursework alongside deliberate classroom practice. Fellows come out prepared to take over and succeed in their own classrooms.

University of Houston-Downtown, Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with Teacher Certification
UHD partners with Houston-area school districts to prepare future teachers who will enhance the academic success for at-risk children and adolescents in urban schools. The program is flexible to fit student needs, including community college transfer students, working adults heading back to school or incoming freshmen.
