You can become a Texas certified teacher through the Houston City College Alternative Teacher Certification Program (ATCP) with a completed bachelor's degree. The program is designed to prepare you to teach a modern classroom, with rigorous and data driven techniques for diverse, 21st century learners. Houston City College’s mission to transform K-12 education is proven through the faculty’s dedication to training and mentoring you to become a high qualified educator in your area of specialty. You will complete coursework, fulfill field work experience and be prepared to take teacher certification and pedagogy exams. You will also have the opportunity to intern at a Teacher Education Agency (TEA) approved charter, private or public school for up to one academic year.
