During preservice training, the teacher certification candidate will take four required classes: Curriculum and Instruction, English Language Arts and Reading, Foundations of English as a Second Language (ESL), and Foundations of Teaching. Candidates training to be bilingual or special education teachers will take a Foundations of Bilingual/Special Education Course. Candidates will also complete additional coursework that includes state mandated field based experiences and content area exam(s).
INSPIRE TEXAS is one of the largest public alternative certification programs in the state of Texas. Based out of the Region 4 Education Service Center in Houston, INSPIRE TEXAS provides online and face-to-face certification for teachers, principals, counselors and superintendents throughout every region in Texas. For over 25 years, INSPIRE TEXAS has educated a diverse and dedicated group of individuals with the sole purpose of ensuring that the school children of Texas receive the best instruction and leadership possible. Over 18,000 thousand candidates—from all walks of life—have trusted their certification to the INSPIRE TEXAS program and Region 4.
Working collaboratively with schools districts, charters and the Texas Education Agency, INSPIRE TEXAS has achieved national recognition as one of the Top Ranked Elementary and Secondary Alternative Certification by the National Council on Teacher Quality. Once they have completed training and have secured employment, INSPIRE TEXAS supports their new teachers with some of the state’s best field supervisors. Field supervision is the heart and soul of the program—nurturing, dynamic and knowledgeable—our field supervisors are successful former administrators with deep local ties to districts. Their sole purpose is to ensure that the new teacher receives only the best support during their induction year of instruction.
For students that choose to pursue secondary math or science, there is a 44 percent reduction in preservice training fees.
